Truck driver dies from smoke inhalation in Kansas wildfire

Wildfires spread across southwest Kansas and one truck driver has died as a result.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said Corey Holt, of Oklahoma City, died Monday when his tractor-trailer jackknifed as he tried to back up because of poor visibility on southern Kansas highway, and he succumbed to smoke after getting out of his vehicle. Two SUVs crashed into the truck, injuring six people who were taken to hospitals, state trooper Michael Racy said. ABC News

The incident occurred on K-34 just before 6 p.m. on Monday evening as Holt was traveling northbound. Holt was 39 years old.

Overall, the wildfires have spread across 4 states, 6 people have been killed, and thousands of others had to evacuate their homes.
