Winter storm Stella hammers the Northeast and mid-Atlantic

Some Stella details “by the numbers”:

  • 60 million people are in the storm’s path.
  • 5 states have declared a state of emergency.
  • 8700 flights have been cancelled thus far.
  • Wind gusts in some areas up to 60 MPH

Tractor trailers are banned in NY Thruway and on most interstates:

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the temporary tractor trailer bans on interstates on I-81, I-84, I-86/Route 17, I-88 and all of the 570-mile Thruway.

The busy corridor that cuts across the state from Pennsylvania to Connecticut will be closed because of heavy snow, Cuomo said at a briefing on Long Island.

The tractor-trailer ban is “until further notice”.

But there’s a bit of good news for the bigger city areas though as the storm is heavier to the west. Hardest hit are the Southern Tier and Central NY.

Upstate NY and NE could see an additional couple feet of snow.
