Truck narrowly misses homeowner after rollover in upstate NY

“Officials” say the driver fell asleep at the wheel. The driver says he swerved to miss a moose. Either way, the homeowners are pretty fortunate things didn’t get a whole lot worse.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning, the tractor-trailer left Route 20 in Darien N.Y., and landed in the yard of a house at 2061 Broadway Road.

The truck rolled over in the yard and crushed the front of a jeep.

Here’s the view of the scene of the crash. The house is on the right:

“A woman who was sitting in her living room at the time said it sounded like a truck dragging a car down the road, then went boom. The big rig wound up only a few feet away from where she was sitting.”

According to first responders:

The patient’s (the trucker) going to be able to get himself out; he’s just looking for some paperwork right now”.

The truck driver received minor injuries, but is expected to be okay. The people inside the house were also okay, but I’m sure they’re still a wee bit shocked!
