Semi hauling seafood inspected; ISP senses something fishy

Monday afternoon, tractor-trailer hauling seafood from California to New York was stopped in Indiana by Indiana State Patrol for a “routine compliance inspection”. After talking to the driver and passenger, the trooper became suspicious and developed “probable cause” for a search of the vehicle. Additional ISP troopers were requested to assist.


According to the Banner Graphic, the search took place on the shoulder of Interstate 70, near mile marker 41.

During the search, troopers found illegal drugs and paraphernalia with a NY street value of $400,000. Seized were:

  • 609 marijuana edibles
  • 1,497 marijuana smoking devices
  • 456 ounces of marijuana syrup
  • seven pounds of marijuana plant
  • 400 controlled substance pills
  • 20 Fentanyl transdermal patches inside suitcases within the cab area

The two men arrested were:

  • 24-year-old Christian Calmus of Phoenix (the driver).
  • 34-year-old Sergo Guyumjian of Flushing, N.Y. (the passenger).

Both men were incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail on felony charges of dealing marijuana over 10 pounds and possession of narcotic drugs.
